Air Shot

An air shot is the injection of polymer melt into the air, instead of into the mold. The main purpose of an air shot is to act as a "test run," to make sure that the machine is operating properly.

The cylinder is pulled back from contact with the sprue bushing and the injection piston is moved forward, forcing melted plastic from the nozzle. If the melt is caught in a metal cup, a pyrometer probe can be used to check the temperature of the melt as it exits from the nozzle. This is one of the more accurate measurements of the melt temperature.

Moldflow Magics STL Expert

Welcome to Moldflow Magics
STL Expert 3.0

Moldflow Magics STL Expert is a tool for viewing, measuring, refining, and correcting solid surface models in Stereolithography (STL) file format. Moldflow Magics STL Expert can be used to optimize the CAD STL model for use with MPA and MPI software. Unique capabilities such as remeshing and triangle reduction will allow the input STL model to be optimized for use with MPA/MPI simulations.

TUTORIAL [Performance Adviser

TUTORIAL

[Performance Adviser]

 Introduction:

In this tutorial, you will use the Performance Adviser functionality to run a filling and packing analysis on the dustpan model shown below. You will then assess the predicted warpage of the part based on the following design criteria:

*         The warpage of the front edge must be no more than 0.5 mm (0.02 inch).

*         The handle must project straight to within 0.5 mm (0.02 inch).

After viewing various Performance Adviser results to diagnose the cause(s) of warpage, you will analyze and assess a revised model which incorporates some measures to correct the warpage.

Task List

1.     Analyze dustpan model

2.     Assess part warpage

3.     Investigate differential cooling

4.     Investigate differential shrinkage

5.     Review revised dustpan model

6.     Analyze revised dustpan model

7.     Reduce differential shrinkage

8.     Tutorial overview

TUTORIAL [Naturally balanced layout

TUTORIAL [Naturally balanced layout]

 Introduction:

This tutorial shows you how to use the Naturally Balanced Layouts tool to create and customize a naturally balanced runner system and cavity layout for a multi-cavity mold.

This tool allows you to choose from common runner system layouts to simulate injection molding of multiple copies of a single model with a single injection location. Properties such as runner type and size, and model orientation can be customized for the selected layout. The multi-cavity layout is generated automatically based on your specifications.

The Naturally Balanced Analysis Mode allows you to run either Plastic Filling or Performance Adviser analyses, depending on your product license. The analysis is optimized so you get results quickly. Results are displayed on a single cavity; other cavities are displayed as 'ghosts' of the original model.

Task List

1.     Create a naturally balanced layout

2.     Edit the layout

3.     Rotate the part

4.     Add drop gates

5.     Run an analysis

6.     View and interpret results

7.     Create a 32 cavity layout

8.     Edit the 32 cavity layout

9.     Tutorial Overview
